For more than three decades, Grace Wetter maintained a steadfast dedication to her students, staff and families. Now she is furthering her legacy by investing in future generations of Prairie students.
Wetter graduated from Battle Ground High School in 1951. After earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education, she returned to Battle Ground in 1959 to work as a teacher at her alma mater. She went on to serve as a school counselor at BGHS and then as a counselor at Prairie High School, where she helped with the opening of the school.
At Prairie, where she worked until her retirement in 1991, Wetter spent countless hours cheering Prairie students on at sporting events, chaperoning dances and attending band concerts. For decades, she also walked alongside numerous children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who graduated from Prairie High School. She currently has two great-grandchildren attending school in the district, one granddaughter working as a paraprofessional and a daughter working as a school counselor.
With such strong ties to the school, Wetter decided to bequeath 50% of her IRA for a scholarship to be given to a Prairie High School graduate. The scholarship will be administered by the Battle Ground Education Foundation. In April, the scholarship application will be available via the Prairie website. Candidates should exemplify the following characteristics:
Gives to others
Radiates kindness
Ambitious and hardworking
Cares for others
Exhibits a growth mindset
Thank you to Grace and her family for their generosity and continued support of Prairie students!
